When I started my venture I was not very sure about the term “Partnership”. For me partnership was about getting partners who will work with me. But, I was wrong. I was wrong to follow wrong reasons for partnership. I thought I might get few friends, ask them if they would like to work with me and that’s it. I thought that having people whom I knew, were friends with was all that I needed to partnership. But, I was terribly wrong. I am not really eligible to talk in detail on this subject but want to provide some guidelines for the newbies who are trying to jump onto the business bandwagon.
To get this we need to actually understand the need of partnership. When we are running a business it is very important to be able to concentrate on things. Business is made of several modules like marketing yourself, managing clients, follow up, resource acquisition, project acquisition, managing the production line, delivery, support and lots of other things to cut short. Now, it is very difficult for a single person to do all this at the same time. It is not impossible but it is very hard. That’s when the partnership kicks in. You get partners to “SHARE” your load. And in return you share their load. Now, I am just talking from one person’s perspective. Someone might invite you for partnership to share their load. So, it is a mutual thing. But, remember the need for partnership is to manage things well.
Just coming to the point, whenever you are going for a partnership always think from your brain. Go for peope who have complimentary skills. Select people who will compliment you and complete the business engine. You might be a good negotiator, have great communication skills but not much technical capable. So, you will definitely want to go with someone who can compliment you on the technical front. Select people who can work independently and are self motivated or you will spending a lot of time motivating them and trying to give them a reason to work. They will just sit and ask you to keep doing things “with them” which basically means “for them”. So, the keyword for partnership is “Complimentary Skills”. Select right people for the business and see how well the whole team performs. Good Luck.
