It has been a long long time since IE6 was introduced. It was introduced in the year 2001. So, that makes it a Eigth year old internet browser. Did I just say “Eight”? How many of you guys are using a eight year old software on your computer, except for Windows XP? Internet Explorer 6 once captured a huge market share. But, with the development of Firefox, Safari and IE7 it started losing its hold. And the latest Google Chrome is the final straw to break the camel’s neck. Moreover, the web designing community knows what a pain is IE6 in the butt with its misbehavior towards CSS, javascript and so on. And I don’t know what’s up with Microsoft, they recently announced that they will still be supporting the IE6 till at least 2014. (“Oh no”. Yes, I hear you)
It is time for web developers themselves to discourage people from using IE6 now. A lot of Web designers & developers have started either giving limited or no support for IE6 to their clients. Moreover the support given for IE6 will now be chargeable.
Another word of caution for the upcoming web developers is to intimate their clients before hand that they, with the ever increasing demands of using various elements and libraries in their web application, cannot guarantee that every WILL work as it supposed to be (read Firefox). But, that doesn’t mean you should not be trying your best to fix things for IE6. A large population is still using IE6 and are highly inert to a browser change. Respect your users.
